Industrial-Look Drawer Pulls

I know I've been absent for a while, but now I have a couple projects to blog about. I've been working on finishing up our playroom storage unit, and I'm just about finished. Since it's not quite finished, I thought I'd first share some pictures of the hardware we are using for the drawer pulls. After looking at a bunch of different options for pulls and not finding anything that we were really excited about, Eric thought it might look cool to use pipes for the pulls. I agreed that it was worth a try so I went out to look for some pipes that just might work. I had to buy a couple parts from both Home Depot and Lowe's. Neither one had all the parts/sizes that I needed. So here is the run down with making the pulls.

Materials needed:

For one pull:

1 - 12" black iron pipe

2 - 3/8" 90-degree black iron street elbow fitting

2 -  3/8" galvanized floor flange (I couldn't find a black iron)

I couldn't find black iron for the floor flange, so I decided to buy the galvanized finish and paint it with Rust-Oleum oil rubbed bronze to achieve the same look.

I lightly misted the flanges with paint and while it was still wet, I dabbed them with a paper towel so a little of the silver would still show through.

It took a couple coats of doing that to achieve the look I wanted.

While I was at it I sprayed the screws I was going to use to attach the pull to the drawer. (Sorry for the blurry picture.)

Here are all the parts ready to put together. From here it's pretty self explanatory how to assemble it all.

 
And here it is all finished on the drawer.

We also just figured out what we are going to do for the pulls for storage unit's cabinet doors. I'll post about that once they are finished.
