Sarah's Desk

I found this breakfast tray while shopping at my local Goodwill store. Initially I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but since it was only $1, I figured I'd take the risk and try to come up with something. A few days later Cassie over at Hi Sugarplum made her breakfast tray into a little lap desk for her girl's room. I wish I could take credit for this idea, but this was all Cassie's.

Before

Materials used:
  • paint
  • Minwax Polycrylic
  • Mod Podge
  • poster paper

I peeled off the vinyl that for some reason had been hot glued onto the top of the tray. I painted the green part of the tray pink and legs white. I then covered it with a poly topcoat. Next I painted Modge Podge on the top of the tray (where I had peeled the vinyl off) and covered it with poster board which I had cut to size. Lastly, I added a couple more coats of Modge Podge on top of the poster paper. I think a decorative paper would have looked cute, but I couldn't find anything large enough and was worried about the seams being too noticable if I had pieced it.

  1. You're right - a lap desk for kids is an awesome idea. And it turned out so cute! I would have LOVED that thing as a child.
